I notice a lot of articles from people who don't like to shave. Nor do I, and I have every sympathy for people who don't want to. However, if you choose to shave, there are a couple of things that make it less dangerous. Most of the women that I know well enough to ask about this use either soap or nothing to lubricate their razor. Shaving-cream works very much better for this. (I have yet to understood why advertizers only try to sell shaving cream to men.) I have not found that any specific brand works better than the others for preventing cuts, but the smells differ, and people with allergies may tolerate some brands better. Also, one gets fewer cuts if one shaves in the same direction that the hair grows. Nothing is obvious until it's obvious, Mary-Anne Wolf (decvax!yale-comix!mwolf)

Re: recent articles in these newsgroups{shaving legs, long hair, women in computing} 1. I don't shave my legs. There have been many articles about how **AWFUL** unshaven legs are under nylons. My solution: I wear tights. I can find them in almost any color to go with anything I wear. They are much thicker than nylons, therefore warmer. I buy the really thick kind[like Danskin(tm)], that one associates with dancers and such. After my friends got used to me wearing them, they gave me no hassles. Also, tights don't run as easily as nylons. I had a pair for a year, and the only reason they ran was because I scraped my foot brushing against a cement wall. I wouldn't touch the stuff palmed off as "opaqe panty hose"; you can still see through them more easily than through my car windows... However, they[and nylons] have the annoying habit of sticking to my dresses/skirts/pants. Does anyone know how to cure this problem? It cannot be insurmountable, because I have seen other women walking around that don't have this problem. If I wear a slip, the slip sticks, and I'm back where I started. Can anyone advise me by mail? Any men that have {constructive} advice will not have their names announced to the net[:-)]. Also I have had luck with a silk slip, at least with Danskin[(tm)] skirts, but silk slips are too expensive for my budget. 2. I wear my hair moderately long[middle of my back], frequently tied back pony-tail style. People say this looks good on me, and it is easy to implement. All it requires is a brushing-out[ghastly/painful process] in the morning. Have you ever gone done the freeway with windows open, then tried[!] to brush long hair out? That is almost an excuse in itself for cutting my hair, but I enjoy having long hair too much. 3. I am into hardware. Repairing/debugging prototypes is my primary job. My TI99/4A is going to get 8-inch floppies, {parallel port for}TRS-80 printer/plotter, 128K RAM and more in the near future. All of these things I am having to build myself because my computer budget is =<0. Also, I think TI has braindamaged some of their peripherals from a hardware point of view. Mind you this is the point of view of the author, not the author's employer, and is expressed as a personal opinion not to be construed as slander/libel/etc. I realize that #3 does not relate to CS, but I just wanted to include myself.
