#N:inmet:16200006:000:1865 inmet!mazur Feb 22 16:06:00 1984 OK, I have a couple of new suggestions. 1) Trash this mailing list idea as a mechanism to discuss feminism. I thought that it was going to be something like Sophie said, an electronic woman-space. I was willing to go along with that idea, or at least try it. 2) Let's trash net.women.only. Let's either change it to net.women.fem and have it as a subgroup to discuss feminist issues, or let's just kill it. There's been nothing in this group since I've been on the net (about 4 months) that couldn't be discussed in net.women. 3) Why don't we start a discussion about creating net.women.fem? You have 20 people (at least) who are interested in such a group. That has to be enough to warrant the creation of a subgroup; it certainly can't be as bad as the proposed net.music split. Most of the people who want to discuss feminist issues don't want to exclude men (like everybody except me and one other person). I was wrong! I thought it was to be done via mail so that we could have it be women- space. If that's not the purpose of the group, why have it restricted at all? I would rather have to explain the "basic tenets of feminism" to people (if it's necessary) than have to explain why we need this restricted mailing group. Secondly, it's stupid that somebody with intelligent and worthwhile opinions like Gene Spafford has to *mail* us letters, because he doesn't want to post in this women.only group. If there's anybody out there who thinks we should keep this sub-group, could you please post here why? We might as well keep the discussion here, since there's not that much traffic. Finally, I'm not going to scream (or flame) if any men want to enter into this discussion. If you don't want to post directly, send it to me and I'll post it for you. I understood the rule for this newsgroup to be that men are not to CRITICISE anything said by a woman, not that men may not post. net.women does seem to attract a fair number of flames. My impression is that both groups are about 'feminism' one way or another, more or less inevitably.

Let's hear it for Beth Mazur's idea. Why not change net.women.only to net.women.fem. I don't care to discuss rape, abortion, or equal rights anymore. I want to hear about the good stuff: aging, pregnancy, feelings, love. And I'd like fore men to read and reply to those topics. Again, let's scrap net.women.only for net.women.fem and use net.women for womenial types of things instead of feminism. Lisa ~ from somewhere to nbires!lizard
