[net.micro.6809] Super Fast &HFFD9 Poke

knudsen@ihnss.UUCP (09/30/83)

Yess, that full-double-speed POKE &HFFD9 is great, with a caveat.
It not only cuts out the video RAM cycles, it also kills the refreshes!!
My RAMs can usually take it for several seconds, but be forewarned.
I actually built this POKE into a music compiler program, where it
kicked in during computationally intensive (no I/O) spurts of
a couple of seconds. The compiler would print out reports of its
progress on the screen, in between the video snowstorms.
Kinda neat to watch, really.

Even better is what this POKE does for software music synthesis--
instant doubling of sample rate, hence the Nyquist freq limit.

Unfortunately, my new disk controller has rendered all the above
academic for the time being--crashes whole system. Wonder why?
