I had a talk with the folks at Microware the other day and happened to ask them about their C compiler for the CoCo. It should be the same version as their present level-1 version that they sell to the rest of the world. I am running that version now and have found it ok. In fact, because of the SAM on the CoCo, the CoCo may have more memory pages available for the compiler than most SS50 machines. No doubt it will run slower because of CoCo's reduced clock rate, but it will be a majority of C as defined in "The C Programming Language." Their version is an adaptation of the James McCosh Compiler that is sold by Windrush and SWTP. However, Microware is the sole support for it and very interestingly, I've found that it's cleaner and more bug free than the McCosh verison sold for FLEX by Windrush! I recently had a talk with a fellow ham (radio amateur) here at work and found that he was running OS9 on a "built from kits" SS50. There ARE a few of us around. He has a modem program (in assembler) that is fully interrupt driven for OS9. I'll try to get the source over to net.sources if I can talk him into it. Incidently, I know OS9 is interrupt driven, but when you open /t1 as a modem port there is a problem with REAL full duplex operation. Apparently a contention arises when you try full duplex. I haven't run into the problem myself but will take him at his word. For OS9 programmers in the Boston area... I may know of a few economic opportunities on the side. I won't touch them due to lack of time and the risk of "conflict of interest" with my job, but if you're interested give me call at home (653-2768). Cheers - norm
