[net.micro.6809] OS9 Step Rate problems

knudsen@ihnss.UUCP (01/25/84)

By now it's clear that you can't vary the step rates of /d0 and /d1
independently, since CCDISK doesn't look at the device descriptors.
I have a RS /d0 and a Tandon /d1; the latter is rated at 8 (not 6) msec.
Experiments show that the RS drive will almost hack 20 ms (the next
faster rate after 30). So far the only published CCDSIK patches
(on netnews or The Rainbow) are for 6 ms. I know about the
bytes that end in 3, but what value should I put in that delay
loop constant at locs 204 and 205 hex?
Someone posted that even RS disks could hack 6 ms. Wish he
could have heard one actually trying it. Also hope he adopts policy of
not posting hearsay, wishful thinking, etc. The RS drive sounds very
smooth at 20 ms, but gets occasional sector errors. I'm hoping
that fixing that delay constant to something less drastic will
clean things up.
