[net.micro.6809] 8K Static RAM doubles Coco speed

knudsen@ihnss.UUCP (06/23/84)

<does usenet still eat this line?>

I built an 8K static RAM card to occupy $E000-$FEFF (the upper half of the
16K cartridge space). Not only does it add 8K of RAM to the Coco,
but object code loaded into it runs TWICE as fast (not 1.4 times) under
the speed POKE to &HFFD7. (well, if all data fetches are also in the 8K).
Reason: the SAM thinks those addresses are ROM, so gives the 6809E both
clock cycles. As a music synthesis hacker (and graphics), I find this
very very useful. Of course the board is switched out in 64K RAM mode,
so won't help OS9 any. mike k
