I have a friend interested in buying a cheap micro to do low level hardware and software hacking with. I suggested the 6809 as one of the neatest 8-bits I had ever seen, so he has been looking at the R-S Color Computer. I have a bunch of questions; 1) Are there any other interesting 6809 based units available? 2) How easy/hard is it to add disk drives to the CoCo? Will they be able to read OS-9 disks? Is there an OS-9 standard? 3) Are the any good books / magazine reviews related to OS-9? 4) Any personal opinions about OS-9? Any alternatives? How "UNIX" like is it? File Sys? Processes?? What ever happened to FLEX/UniFLEX? And anything else you can think of. He would consider a good 'C' compiler and assembler a real plus. How much would a workable experimenter system cost? I will post a summary of any/all messages sent directly to me. usenet: ....decwrl!rhea!mrfort!budne arpa: budne%mrfort.dec@decwrl.arpa ---- Phil Budne DEC Large Computer Group (DEC-10/20) Marlboro[ugh], Mass -------
