.. .. Someone here on the net speculated as to why OS9 was not chosen as the native O/S for the Amiga... I offer: The non-recurring development costs for the DOS are quite small compared to the recurring costs to build many tens of thousands of machines. A software house like microware (or microsoft), having no other substantial revenue sources, must charge a hefty fee (in royalties or negotiated rights). The manufacturer, however, can simply bury the non-recurring costs for a DOS into the amoritization within the product's sell price, along with the EE's and ME's costs. Thus, for anything with reasonable volume, one should build, not buy. So that's my speculation on why OS9 was not chosen. On a strictly technical level, I'd love for someone to contrast OS9/68K and Amiga-DOS using a capabilities matrix.
