[net.micro.6809] Ramdisk/cables/cartridge slot

jeff1@garfield.UUCP (Jeff Sparkes) (10/29/85)

I'm going to build a ramdisk for my coco. It's going to have 256K (to
start) and it will be hooked up to the cartridge slot. Can someone give me the
address of someone who supplies Y-connectors for the cartridge slot, preferably
Canadian. Also, does anyone know if I can safely hook up the chips to power
supply coming out of the bus? There are going to be 8 or 9 256kbit chips,
three octal latches and a couple of other 74xx chips. Will I be able to power
this from my coco, or will I have to add a power supply to my board?

I'm going to modify the disk driver and make this thing look like a disk
to OS9. Just think about it, it'll be faster than a hard disk! I'm going to
use 24 bits for the address making up to 16 megs possible! Teach those IBM PC's
a lesson! Actually, the next step is probably paging/virtual memory off the
ramdisk.

I'd like to hear some comments on this, especially from anyone who's already
tried this. Also, address/prices of Y-connectors, and even places that supply
256k chips. (41256??)
