[net.micro.6809] info on OS-9

isusebj@gt-oscar.UUCP (Byron Jeff) (11/09/85)

I'm looking for an exchange of info and software with users running
OS-9 on a 68k. I'm considering building a small 68k machine running OS-9 and
I would appreciate info from users with experience in implementing it on
non-standard machines.

                                                Thanks,

                                                Byron Jeff

I too would like information about ports of OS-9 to 68K machines. Perhaps
a note here to say that you have done such a port and then we could query
(via mail) for details.

I don't expect you'll get much help on the net. Not many people actually
do ports because they tend to be people who know what systems are out there
already. That is, there are a handful of good single boards around and they
already have ports. The current hot setup is the Gimix/Data-Comp Mustang 68020
board. It costs $2750.00 US, wired, tested with 4 DB25 Serial ports (pre-wired)
and requires cabinet & pwrsupply ($269.95), cables (floppy or hard $39.95)
OS-9 68K $350.00 (special version). MC6881 floating point is supported but not
included.

12.5 mHz., 2 Meg. RAM, (up to 256K ROM), 1 - 8 bit parallel port, expansion port
16 bit, battery backed real time clock, floppy controller, SASI interface
(controller is not included), Programmable Periodic Interrupt generator.

This is the Cadillac of 680xx, OS-9 systems. Uniflex is also available
if you buy it from Gimix (the Uniflex is Virtual Memory and fully 68020
optimized). There are a couple of other 680xx single boards around that have
their own OS-9 ports. Also, there's a 68000 adapter board for Z-80 CP/M
systems with OS-9. So not many people do their own ports when they have
this much to chose from.

Call Data-Comp at (615) 842-4600 if you're interested. Or Gimix at
(312) 827-5510. For porting info, call Microware (515) 224-1929.

                                           Cheers! -- Jim O.

Microware does most of the porting of OS-9 to 68k machines. We are very
experienced at that. There are also many other companies that have ported
OS-9 to their hardware. Contact us via email for more information on this.

I can provide the required technical information. Andy Ball can provide
business related information. (...!mcrware!andy) or call 515-224-1929.
