[net.micro.6809] I need info on getting OS-9 for a CoCo 2

joe@watvlsi.UUCP (Joe Morrison) (11/25/85)

I have a "bare bones" Colour Computer right now, and would like to turn
it into a reasonable development system. (Mostly for the experience it
will give me playing with hardware.)

I want to put 256k into it, and there are several schemes I've heard of
for doing this. Question 1: what sort of configuration does OS-9 expect?
Can OS-9 recognize and make use of more than 64k?

Question 2: I have heard that I can put on a second terminal through the
serial port. Is this true?

Question 3: How are other devices usually attached? If I have a printer,
modem, disk drive and a second terminal, is there a way to get them all
on using the cartridge port? Will I ever get to use the cartridge port
again?

Question 4: Am I asking too much of the Coco 2? Should I just give up
and buy an Atari ST?

Question 5: Where do I get OS-9 anyway? Are there better places to buy
it than from Radio Shack?

I am willing to hack up my Colour Computer if necessary, by the way!
If anyone has some suggestions for me or answers to my questions, I
would very much appreciate hearing them! Please reply by mail, and if
there is much response I will post the usual summary. My apologies to
OS-9 haters! I agree that OS-9 should have its own newsgroup...
Cheers,
