[net.micro.6809] Color Computer Help

jimomura@lsuc.UUCP (Jim Omura) (12/04/85)

I have received a request for help by mail which I cannot reply to
so I hope this will be forgiven. There are a few ways to have the RS-232C
and Disk controller run simultaneously. I use the Shack's Multi-Pak
interface and I'm debating whether or not to buy the MaxSys Color Burst.
The Color Burst has 8 bank selectable slots for expansion as well as the
previously mentioned 6829 MMU and up to 1 meg. RAM. It has it's own
power supply and is designed to allow DMA. It also has an interrupt
timer. (Correction 7 slots, not 8).

It's available from Maxsys Electronics & Software Co., PO Box
25336, Milwaukee, WI, 53225, USA. The other possible expansion I'm
considering by the way, is a 68008, but that's another story.

At the other end of the cost spectrum, you can buy a Y adapter
cable. These cost about $20.00 US and are available from a fair
number of sources. Buy an issue of Hot CoCo or Rainbow and you'll
probably find 1 or 2 advertised.

I don't suggest you try to hook up too much to the bus unless you
add an extra power supply. This is why the Multi-Pak or ColorBurst
tend to be the better overall buys. The Color Computer II simply
doesn't have a power supply that's adequate for much. Besides, you
also run into memory conflicts without the bank switching that these
units add.

                                       Cheers! -- Jim O.
