[net.micro.6809] Banker

david@ukma.UUCP (David Herron, NPR Lover) (11/07/85)

I just saw the description of this thing in Byte and wondered
if anybody could provide some details.

It's called the 'Banker' by J&R Electronics, POB 2572, Columbia MD,
21045. It plugs into the Sam socket and provides access to
256K of memory. It sounds like it will work with OS-9 to provide
a full 256K work area.

Thanks in advance

I don't think it will work as program work space. I have heard that they
are currently working on an OS-9 Ram Disk to use with the Banker.

I have heard that Intelligent Devices, 100 West El Camino Real, Suite 61
Mountain View, Ca. 94040, Phone: (415)966-8615, has Ram Expansion units
for the CoCo. They have 128K now for $79.95. They also told me that they
have 512K to be introduced in Jan. 86 for $139.95, that includes as OS-9
Ram Disk, Basic software that will let you have a 400K+ program, and a
Basic Ram Disk, and some other software. It sounds good to me.

I just bought one of Intelligent Devices 128K upgrades during their XMAS
special (buy 128 thru 12/14/85 & get 512 upon release for only the difference)
I love it !!! Their OS-9 Ram Disk is so fast. All you have to do is enter:
CHX /V/CMDS (/V is the name of the ram disk). I would recommend it to anyone
just for this feature alone. My toy computer just became serious for Os-9
usage with only one physical drive (the other in ram). They also have
excellent BASIC software and user support. Take my word for it, it is good
I've used it.
For those flame-throwing OS-9 haters....... TOO BAD!!!!!! I think my
$99 computer with its $85 Teac disk drive and $149 disk controller will give
you elistists a run for your money when it comes to performance (with a REAL
OS like OS9), ease of use, and flexibility. FLAME ON LOSERS!!!!!

PS: The above opinion is my own and does not reflect that of my employer. (They
push stuff like XENIX, RMX, and MS-DOS.)
