I received OS9 v2.00.00 yesterday. Definitely worth the $24.95
upgrade cost. Major improvements include graphics paging up to
3 pages, a fill command for graphics, graphics routines in a separate
module that does not need to be loaded when graphics aren't in use,
(I don't know how much memory is saved this way), speech/sound cartridge
support, (write to device "/ssc" as to "/p" using ASCII), hard disk
support, modem support, and 80 column support.

There are now three video drivers, CO32 for 32 columns on a TV.
CO80 for 80 columns using "optional 80 column card". GRFO (that
might be the wrong name, I'm writing from memory) for graphics routines.

My question at this point is: what is meant by "optional 80 column
card"? Do they mean WordPakII or is Tandy planning on releasing
an 80 column card of their own? If they do, will it support graphics on
the 80 column monitor, using extra RAM in the card to increase graphics
resolution?

I would like to hear from anyone regarding the quality and performance
of WordPakII. Such things as: does it work with all of OS9 ?
What do you need to use the TV for (ie graphics)? Does TSEDIT
work with WordPak or would I need a new editor?

John Lawitzke asked about the 'co80' module. It doesn't work
"as is" for Wordpak II. Compuserve 'os9 sig' has a sort of semi-public
domain (how do you interpret "for CIS os9 sig users"?) replacement.
In fact PBJ sell their own new version 2 driver for the Wordpak II.

Tandy on the otherhand have been supplying an 80 column card
through express order. I don't know anything about it, except that
it's obviously not Wordpak II.

                                       Cheers! -- Jim O.

Apparently Tandy has set up a deal with PBJ so they can sell a stripped
down version of their 80 column card (WordPak II). No guesses as to
*when* Tandy plans on releasing this item (what else is new?).

What BOTH Tandy and PBJ are now selling is called the "wordpak-rs". It
is basicaly a wordpak-I except it is addressed at different memory addresses.
Cost is $99.00. At this time, PBJ no longer sells either the wordpak I or II.
I would wait a while before rushing out to buy it though. I am currently
working with PBJ to clear up a bug in the co80 driver they supply. The
one that comes with os9 V2.00, well, who knows what it is for. PBJ ships
its own driver at this time. I have version 1.00 and the ^F, or cursor
right does not work. PBJ will, no doubt, clear this up quickly.
