Hello Mike K... Thanks for your e-mail regarding the MIDI interface for the CoCo. Sorry for replying via news, but I somehow lost your electronic address. You mentioned that there are three manufacturers selling MIDI hardware and software for the CoCo. Do you have their names ? Addresses ? I'm really new at this game, and had previously assumed that MIDI is by and large RS-232 incompatible, so the Speech Systems product really sounds interesting. I called the local Radio Shack Computer Center and they said that there was NO MIDI hware/sware available for the CoCo. I had resolved to rip apart a game cartridge and try to build my own, using the "USENET guide to MIDI" as a guide. Again, the $40.00 product sounds NICE...DO YOU HAVE THE ADDRESS ? Thanks...ebs

Do you have their names ? Addresses ? Hope this gets to you. The best thing to do is buy the latest issue of Rainbow magazine (no Coconut should be without it) and look up (in the advertisers' index) Intercomp Sound, Horizon Software, and Speech Systems. The last one has the cheap $40 one-way MIDI (play only). I just got their full 2-way (record also) system ($130). Word is, Intercomp Sound still can't ship (some bugs yet). Horizon is the outfit with the solid walnut ROM pak (!). > I'm really new at this game, and had previously assumed that > MIDI is by and large RS-232 incompatible, so the Speech Systems > product really sounds interesting. It just uses a resistor to convert RS232 voltage into MIDI current loop, and is one-way (play only), but lotsa fun with their MUSIC-2 score editor. > I called the local Radio Shack > Computer Center and they said that there was NO MIDI hware/sware > available for the CoCo. They lied || They're ignorant || Both of the above. I had resolved to rip apart a game cartridge > and try to build my own, using the "USENET guide to MIDI" as a guide. You can -- just an 6850 UART, a 1 MHz osc, etc. I came pretty close to doing it myself. mike k
