[net.misc] Strange place names

It looks like nobody else thought of it, so ...

In upstate PA, there was the town of (if I remember the spelling)
Mauc Chunk. It is an indian phrase that meant something appropriate for
the area. The town fathers got this great moneymaking idea, leased the
body of Jim Thorpe from his widow, and built a suitable memorial
outside of town as a tourist attraction. They also changed the name of
the town to Jim Thorpe, PA.

(If you think that is bizarre already, there are further tails about them
being sued for nonpayment of rent on the body, court battles over getting
it back, etc.)

The town across the river, to the east, was always considered a suburb of
Mauc Chunk/Jim Thorpe, but refused to go along with the renaming, so the
town next to Jim Thorpe is still

		East Chunk
