[net.micro.6809] fun & games

jonh@tektools.UUCP (Andy Davidson) (06/28/86)

You technical 6809 people sound so boring. (I know when I get that good, it'll
be fun, but until then...) Is anyone out there interested in GAMES? Also, I
have a few other requests:
1. On behalf of a friend with a MC-10, 20K with a modem, does anybody have any
software (PD, of course) for that machine? What microprocesser is it?
2. I'd like to start a bbs, I have a 64K CoCo I with ECB, a printer, and a
Smartmodem 1200. Does anyone have any software? Please have the main loop
in basic, I'd like to incorporate on-line games.
3. Does anyone know where I can get a fan to keep my computer cool? I've
   already blown a 64K chip..

Actually, no, I'm not very interested in games at all. A bit, but
not much. You might find more interest in 'net.micro.trs-80' (at least
I *think* that's what it's called).

It has a 6801 (or a 6803). If you have a terminal program for the
MC-10, you can store your BASIC programs in ASCII on the CoCo I, cross-
load them to the MC-10 and store it onto an MC-10 tape and then load
it into the MC-10. Many programs will work this way if they aren't too
large. The CoCo doesn't write an MC-10 format tape. I think there
might have been a CoCo I/II program published to write an MC-10 tape.
I'm not sure.

Note that the 6801 has been replaced by the 6811 (and the 6803
replaced by the 6813) in the Motorola lineup. These new processors are
pin compatible and object code compatible with their predecessors, *but*
they have greatly extended capbilities. For instance, they have hardware
division as well as the hardware multiplication that the 6809 had.
Ironically, after the 6811 came out, I wanted an MC-10 to hack around
with but I couldn't find one.

The Rainbow published a Color Computer BBS a while back. If you know
some Color Computerists in Oregon (there should be quite a few), you
may be able to scrounge a copy of the magazine.

Again, check Rainbow Magazine. There's at least one fan around.
As an alternative, think about buying the expansion interface. If find
I don't have much heat problem with the main unit. The expansion
interface has its own power supply. If you use it, the main unit's
power supply tends to stay reasonably cool (and I use a *lot* of the
64K RAM with OS-9).
