I'll bet a lot of other Coco owners out there, like me, are wondering whether to get a Coco-III, stick with their current Coco, or the heck with it, go splurge on an Atari ST or Amiga. Want to see lots of well thought-out and written opinions on this matter? Go read net.micro.apple! They're in almost the same boat -- the new Apple//GS upgrades the old Apples in much the same way as the Coco-III does our little boxes. The graphics specs are almost identical! Yet many old Apple lovers are yearning for the wide-open pastures of Amigaland. More to the point, the //GS mother board can be installed in an old Apple case; however, a 3" disk drive is needed and the thing costs $999! The Coco-III costs only $220 (including its own case, KB, power supply, etc) and lets us keep ALL our hardware and most software. So the upgrade for us is a lot less painful. As I've said before, what hurts about going to an ST or Amiga is losing all your disks, MultiPak, etc. However, if you're wondering whether to keep investing in an old 8-bit system (which may be doing everything you need) or to kick up to a 68000 (or 80x86) system with gobs of memory, and what will become of your 8-bitter if you go to a 16-bitter ... well, go read the .apple postings. All viewpoints are there. BTW, their comparisons of 6502-type microchips -vs- Z80s and 8088s -- bear in mind our 6809 is like a 6502 in getting the most out of each clock cycle, which lets us compete with Z80s and 8088s. -- mike k -- Mike J Knudsen ...ihnp4!ihwpt!knudsen Bell Labs (AT&T) (312)-979-4132 (work) Nobody pays for my opinions, which are mine alone.
