[net.legal] Another $75000 to crime

pat@ih1ap.UUCP (09/02/83)

Just for interest, I though I would tell a story I read in the Wednesday
Chicago Tribune. A thief just won a suit for $75000 from the man he
was robbing. It seems that 3 years ago, a man heard a noise from the street.
He found a man broke into his car and was running away with $175 of
his property. He pursued and states he fired a warning? shot. Well, the shot
his the thief in the foot. The judge found for the thief because we can't
have people going around shooting for $175 of property. It is interesting
that the thief claimed loss of mobility because of his foot, and yet he
has been arrested twice in the interim 3 years for other thefts, one of
which he RAN a mile to elude the police.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN THE JUSTICE HALLS OF THE U.S.A???

I wish these judges(and I use the word loosely) would get ripped off
and attacked more often. Obviously, they have little concern for what
the victim of crimes go through.
