[net.legal] more on Could PC-DOS mistake be the end of Microsoft?

bstempleton@watmath.UUCP (Brad Templeton) (10/25/83)

More thought on this issue makes it clear that IBM would not want
to ruin Microsoft, even if they could. This type of action would
of course create a lot of bad public opinion and bring up trust
questions.

I doubt Microsoft is in any trouble, and I don't have any real
knowledge of what is behind the rumour, but the legal question does
interest me.

We all know that most software comes with all sorts of disclaimers
and waivers, but have these things been tested? What if somebody did
make a software mistake that cost IBM a lot of money. Does this make
dealing with big companies more dangerous because the bigger they are
the harder they can fall on you?

Is this rumour another one of IBM's smokescreen rumours? There sure
seem to have been a lot of these regarding the PC Junior.
