options available to me to obtain federal income tax relief with regard
to this purchase?

My wife and I recently purchased a terminal and a modem for use at
the house for strictly business purposes.  You can depreciate it,
typically using the 5-year scale, and claim the depreciated amount
on schedule A under miscellaneous deductions.  (This info was gathered
from the big IRS itself, so unless they are lying...)
