[net.legal] "The Programmer", by Bruce Jackson

[Bug for today ---> }8{ --- Kind of cute, eh?]

This book was published in 1979, so you may have trouble finding
it. It is a very humorous novel about a programmer named Eddie
Argo who uses his computer terminal to "rob from the rich and
give to the poor". Amongst his antics are the issuing of credit
cards to himself under several different names, sending large
social security payments to the elderly, and lowering some city
employee's paychecks to do so! The humor is VERY Buffalo, NY
based (i.e. it helps if you have lived in Western NY during the
late 1970's) as the author is a professor of English at SUNY/Buffalo.

I recommend it to anyone who wants to see how an author of fiction
treats the problem of computer theft. Fortunately for Eddie, he
doesn't quite get caught 8-)
