[net.legal] Reposting Weird laws

gnome@olivee.UUCP (Gary Traveis) (07/13/84)

This is a reposting of an article that supposedly went out
a while ago but actually got eaten by the file monster at
the Lazy O (Olivetti ATC).

This was originally sent to net.motss but probably didn't apply
to the ongoing argument presently raging there.

(?)

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but does
anyone know what kind of stupid/outdated/backward laws
apply in California? A good example -

In MD, there is a law that you can not have
your head below the dashboard of your car

	- because you might be engaging in oral sex!
	 (Of course!)

Does CA have laws against sex...
	In unusual places?
	With more than one person?
	With non-people? (biologically,not intelectually)
With the wrong state of mind? Oops! That's
a Religious, not geographical, question! Ugh!

Whether it is prosecuted or not, is CA as socially advanced
as people are lead to believe or is it a stereotype that
simply covers up a more parochial legal system????

???

These laws do not deal with CA, but with WA. (not DC). I do not verify
that they are still on the books, an effort was made to expunge things
with a sunset law (selectively enforced, of course).

1. It is illegal to have sex in other than the missionary position.
A peeping tom who catches you at it in your own bedroom and
reports you is immune from prosecution as a voyer.

2. It is illegal to have sex with a fish or a Caribou.
As an aside, there have not been any Caribou in WA since the
white man first came here (except in the zoos).

3. In a car, if the girl has her shoes off and her head below the
window level and she is <18 years old it is statutory rape.

Speaking of weird laws, I understand that in San Francisco it is illegal to
sleep in the nude. The reason given is that during the 1906 fire and
earthquake, people were awakened and ran into the streets. A lot of them
were nude. The law was passed so that this wouldn't happen again.

I guess it scared a lot of horses or something.
