<beep....beep.....BEEP....BEEEEEEEEEEEEP> Here's the scenario: You're cruising along in your GTI or 4000 Quattro or whatever and you've got your faithful ESCORT sitting on the dashboard for company. The state you're in just happens not to like radar detectors and has a habit of confiscating them. An officer of the law pulls you over, doesn't really matter for what reason at this point, and you don't feel like having the ESCORT taken away from you. To this end there is a large envelope on the passenger seat with your address on it and proper postage. Quickly you remove the detector from the dash and slip it in the envelope and seal it. Maybe the officer has seen this, maybe not. Since the envelope is sealed and has your name and address on it does the officer have a right to open it and confiscate the detector? Wouldn't this be a federal offence on his part? Could you then be procecuted for concealing evidence? Is this a good idea? Please respond by mail since I don't subscribe to this net. Thanks in advance Dave Burden decvax!decwrl!rhea!cheers!burden 603-881-2559 DEC Nashua, NH
