[net.legal] Ashton-Tate as a trademark?

ado@elsie.UUCP (Arthur David Olson) (01/22/85)

The other day while browsing in a magazine, I read in an advertisement
placed by Ashton-Tate that
	"Ashton-Tate is a trademark of Ashton-Tate. . ."

Now I had always been taught that the law didn't allow you to trademark
proper names. So, for you legal beagles:

Does the law allow to trademark hyphenated proper names?

Would the law allow Horton-Summers to be trademarked,
	but not Summers-Horton?

Ashton-Tate is an Ashton-Tate trademark (or so they claim).
