I read Jeff Hull's comments on this case. He comments about the media's fairness about grilling Westmoreland's settlement requests and not CBS. In all fairness, I do not believe that Westmoreland was grilled by any media news station over the statement. The General merely offered a statement that he clearly wanted to make. The news networks did ask CBS what they thought of the settlement. In my opinion, Westmoreland's comments made bigger news than CBS' comments. As far as the Sullivan decision being unpopular, I disagree. The Sullivan decision, like the NY Times decision, merely holds that public events or public people can be held up to media scrutiny.
