[net.legal] Unsolicited magazine subscription

I just got the same except it was from Popular Computing....
I just wrote on the bill: I did not order this--cancel subscription.

maybe I'll get a couple free mags.

You are NEVER obligated to pay for unordered merchandise that arrives via
US mail -- whether it is magazines, veg-o-matics, or turnip snizzlers.
If you feel civil yet, you can return the bill with an note explaining
you never ordered or subscribed. If you don't feel particularly civil,
that's not absolutely necessary, but they will probably pester you until
you DO send them a note to that effect. It would seem to be much more
effective to send a note saying "no thank you, but thanks for the gifts!".

Unless my memory has failed, Pop Computing went under a couple of months
ago.  In which case you won't get any free mags.  But then, that's
better than not getting the issues that you were expected to pay for :-)
