[net.legal] MORE VISA card scam

bl@hplabsb.UUCP (Bruce T. Lowerre) (03/20/86)

I couple of months ago, I got a pre-authorized solicitation for a
"MORE" VISA card. I get this kind of thing all the time. However,
this card offer featured no monthly or yearly fee. I returned the
application card and about a month later received the VISA card along
with a check for $1,000.00 drawn on my new account. The enclosed
letter said congradulations, etc., here is a check for $1,000.00 to
use as you please. I did not need the grand, so I put the check
along with the letter in my desk drawer. The next month I received
my first monthly statement. It showed a balance due of $1,000.00
plus interest, minimum payment of $50.00 please. I was pissed!
I cut the card in half, put it in the return envelope along with
the uncashed check and wrote a nasty note on the bill pointing out
that I never received funds from my account and told them to cancel
the account. I have not heard back from them. They have a lot of
God damn gall to tell you that their card has no fees and then bill
you for funds (plus interest) that you've never received.

Nothing is free, no matter how much they try to convince you otherwise.

Ps: Its a good thing you didn't put that $1000 to use.
