[net.music] Watusi Rodeo, anyone?

michaelf@ISM780.UUCP (01/24/85)

Guadalcanal Diary has a great song out called "Watusi Rodeo"
about some cowboys who go to Africa and start turning the place
into a rodeo. They ride water buffaloes and do all kinds of
good ole' thangs until the Watusi's get pissed. Nice clean sound.
These guys are relatively obscure, are they not? If not, can anyone
give me some info before I buy?

Also, which albums are good representatives of Tupelo Chain Sex
	   and/or The Minutemen? I've heard a lot from them but I don't
want to waste my record money on stuff that should have been
	   aborted instead of recorded.

The only recording by Tupelo Chain Sex that I am aware of is

Dr. Nightcall b/w ??? (featuring Sugarcane Harris on violin)

I don't think that it is representative of their sound,
but would reccommend it to Sugarcane fans (he played on Willie the
Pimp (?))

As for the Minutemen, it depends on your budget;

   Single - Paranoid Time
   EP - The Punch Line
Album - What Makes a Man Start Fires?
Double Album - Double Nickels on the Dime

(in chronological order). All are excellent and you get 3x as many
songs for your money.

I tried to send a message directly to the original poster of this
message (Michael F. on ism780), but it came back undeliverable.
In regard to the original inquiry--does anyone have any info about
Guadalcanal Diary? A seldon-seen friend whose taste I revere told
me they're worth looking into. I've been able to find out that
they're on DB Recs, which puts them somewhere in Georgia as close
as I can figure. Obviously I could write to the record company
directly, but this is much more fun, and anyway, they're bound to
just send me a catalog and ask for mucho bucks. Can anyone help
     me?

Keep an eye out for my upcoming review of the brand-new tape from
     THE REPLACEMENTS: _The_Shit_Hits_the_Fans_--yow!!!
