Wanted: One beautiful program. Apparently-To: willy REWARD: Immortality (perhaps). The HCR Program Visualization Project funded by DARPA has been investigating new methods of presenting computer program source code to enhance its readability and legibility. The project is now drawing to a close. As part of its final report, which is likely to be printed in 250 to 1000 copies and widely distributed, it intends to include one sample program which will be formatted and presented using the tools and designs developed by the Project. This program must have the following characteristics: 1) Be in the public domain, i.e., you are willing and able to let us publish it. 2) Be 25 to 100 pages in length. 3) Be reasonably well structured. 4) Be reasonably well documented. 5) Consist of 5 to 20 source files. 6) Exercise many, most, or all of the features of the C programming language, and be totally written in C. 7) Do something which can be explained without overwhelming difficulty, i.e., it should not be the world's most obscure programming hack.
