[tor.general] Computer Science and Hockey

bdown@utai.UUCP (Brian Down) (09/23/86)

For the past number of years, a number of distinguished researchers
in Computer Science have gotten together on Friday afternoon to
play hockey. The participants include Professors and Staff from
the Computer Systems Research Institute and Department of Computer
Science at the University of Toronto, employees of IP Sharp, private
consulting firms and the occasional appearance of visitors from
Stanford, Silicon Valley, etc.

Naturally, pre and postgame discussion concerns ongoing research
topics, latest hardware developments and who missed the most open
nets.

The latter is a frequent occurrence as there is a scarcity of goalies
who are available at Friday at 4pm. This message is an attempt to
change that.

If you play goal and would like to have a game on Fridays at 4pm at
McCormick Arena (Dundas and Dufferin) please contact me.
If you are a student goaltender, this is an excellent opportunity
to meet professors and employers...err.. employees in the industry.
If you are a computer professional this provides an oppertunity
to informally meet others in the field.

The level of competition is not the greatest...nor is it the worst.

PS: If you play out and can bring along a goalie...contact me
anyway. You can both probably play. (It is free for goalies.)
If you aren't associated with Computer Science.....who cares.
