Nicaragua is a country of great need of technical assistance. Much of
the assistance it obtains comes through TecNICA, an organisation which
sponsors short working tours for technically skilled volunteers. Tours
leave monthly and are generally 2 to 4 weeks long. TecNICA serves private
and public agencies by providing vitally needed training, consulting and
direct assistance to schools, hospitals, farms, banks, newspapers,
research organizations, factories and government departments.

Techinical specialties that Nicaragua regularly needs include the
following: computer programming; systems analysis; electronic repair;
economics; statistics; business accounting and financial analysis;
banking; engineering and various mechanical and electrical trades.
However, anyone with experience and practical expertise can make a
valuable contribution. You volunteer time and the airfare; TecNICA co-
ordinates your skills with an appropriate project and arranges for your
support while there.

If you have technical skills and are interested in volunteering your
services for people in need or are simply seeking further information,
please contact: TecNICA Toronto 84 Spruce Hill Road Toronto M4E 3G4, or
call Glen Farley at 416-694-7775

The next meeting of TecNICA in Toronto will take place on Thursday
March 26th at 7:30 pm at Friends House, 60 Lowther Ave, (2 blocks N of
Bloor at St George). There will be a video tape, a returning volunteer
will speak and central american music will play.
