evan@telly.UUCP (Evan Leibovitch) (09/14/88)
Many of you, especially those of you with BBS experience outside Usenet, have heard of Canada Remote Systems, the country's largest BBS. Modem phones: 231-1499 (Telebit), 2310538 (2400) Until now, it's been (and still is) THE best source of DOS freeware and shareware, almost ALL of it in binary form. Message groups have centred on DOS and the Mac, with most of the public messages in the "where can I find XYZ hard disk for my AT" category. Well, it's taken the plunge into Unix. There is now both a public message section devoted to Unix, and a good number of files archived there. (Standard stuff - smail, sc, bnews, etc.) To make use of the archives you have to take a walk on the DOS side. UUCP is not supported: to get the files you need XMODEM or Kermit built into your terminal program. Once you've got it, you have to extract files using the ARC or ZOO programs (Compress is a curiosity here.) I have about 80K of public messages off CRS, which were kindly forwarded to me by paul@moore. Is there any interest in my posting them? Also, I'm interested in comments from those of you with CRS accounts. Will it ever get out of the bush league? ____ Evan Leibovitch, SA of System Telly, located in beautiful Brampton, Ontario evan@telly.UUCP (PENDING: evan@telly.on.ca) / {uunet!attcan, utzoo}!telly!evan Don't worry - Be happy.
