Just thought you might want to know this .... From the Toronto Globe & Mail, December 2, 1985: Love Boat's Gopher to try Political Life (AP) Alexandria, Va. Actor Fred Grandy, who plays the hapless Gopher on television's Love Boat, will announce next month that he is running for the state legislature in Iowa's 6th District, his political consultant says. "He's definitely going to run" for the Republican nomination in the district advisor Rich Bond said. The only obstacle to Grandy's candidacy would be complications from the actor's contract with Love Boat producer Aaron Spelling, Bond said. Grandy has a year left on his contract. The Alexandria-based consultant said he has already informed the Iowa Republican Central Committee that Grandy, 36, plans to run for the nomination to challenge six-term Democratic Representative Berkley Bedell. Grandy grew up in Sioux City, Iowa and went to Harvard University. He worked six years in Washington as an aide to former U.S. Representative Wiley Mayne of Iowa before becoming an actor. ------ "There's already one spaceman in the white house, what do you want another one for? - Elvis Costello
