(Well, i hope that subject line stirs up interest :-) A musician acquaintance of mine here from Estonia (a reluctant part of the Soviet Union) is looking for a microcomputer that he could buy here and take back home with him. He is here only until Saturday, so I am asking for immediate opinions and advice. Please don't reply to this request after March 10th. Question 1: what micro, program, micro/program combination is (are) the best for a serious composer/musician? (I have the feeling that something like a Mac II is beyond his price range. He's looking at an Atari ST right now.) Question 2: Estonian electricity is of the 220 volt, 50 Hz flavour. I would guess that a micro would be fairly demanding in terms of correct voltage and Hertz-age (i know that's not a word). How could he solve this problem? If someone could answer "just go to store X and buy gizmo Y", that would be great. I've posted this with ont distribution to get more opinions, but any store recommendations should be for Toronto stores. Many thanx to those who sent me advice. (It was interesting to see how much "expert" opinions could differ :-) If anyone is interested, there's an article about this guy and his compatriots (along with a picture of him) in this week's NOW magazine (the one issued on the 9th).
