[tor.general] American Sign Language

brian@berner.UUCP (Brian A. Jarvis) (05/02/89)

'Lo, folks!

Of late, I've decided to start learning American Sign Language. Unfortunately,
finding an appropriate course is not an easy thing.

I've tried both the Bob Rumball Centre For The Deaf and the Canadian
Hearing Society, but both have no positions available in their courses
until the fall. As I don't intend to be living in or anywhere near
Metro Toronto at that time, this presents a bit of a problem.

Does anyone know of some other course or institute which offers courses
in ASL? Does anyone know a person who would be willing to teach it
privately (and at what rate)?

P.S. I tried the Toronto Assn. For the Deaf at 531-3088, but got a blast
of a tty carrier in my ear. Ouch!

It's all guesswork, really. If you want to be fancy, you could call it physics.
