[tor.general] Tour of the Universe

evan@telly.on.ca (Evan Leibovitch) (07/06/89)

I've got some family coming over from Wales and I'm wondering about whether
to take them to "what Omni magazine called one of the best 10 rides in
America (sic)" according to the TV ads.

Can someone who has been there comment on what it is, whether it's
as good as claimed, what it costs, and whether it's geared more to kids,
adults, or both.

Thanks.

My impression of peoples' impressions (er...) is that, for
the money, it's a bit of a let down. The lineups are truly staggering
at times (not as bad as Wonderland, though), for such a short 'ride'.
Disclaimer: I've not been on it; this is just what I've heard. I _have_
seen the lineups, though, and that's partly why I've held off.

Definitely. I went on a rainy Sunday at around noon, so there was no lineup
to speak of, but for twelve bucks per person it was not worth the money.
Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for it, but you spend about 40 minutes
going through all sorts of silly machinations like passport checking and
laser vaccination against space diseases, and then the ride, when it finally
comes, is only 10 minutes long and extremely bumpy.

The "Star Wars" ride at Disneyland was *much* better. Less junk in front,
and a longer, more exciting ride at the end (and you got to go in Space
Mountain as well :-) ).
