[net.misc] Confusing Commercial Lyrics

dave@cylixd.UUCP (Dave Kirby) (12/20/85)

One thing I have noticed recently is a number of commercials where
the writers of the lyrics did not take enough care in determining
just how they would sound over the radio, where they could easily
get confused.

The first one I noticed was the New Tab commercial. The slogan "Let's
taste" invariably comes across on the radio as "Less taste - New Tab -
Less taste."

Another one that came soon after that was the TV Guide commercial sung
to the tune of "That's Entertainment." The first line is "The fun -
all the shows A to Z, and the facts - what's behind what you see." But
I heard this commercial many times on the radio before I finally
figured out what they were singing. For several months it sounded like
"The fun - all the shows you hate to see, and the fact - that you mind
what you see..."
