[net.text] Can I 'eqn' on a Linotron 202?

We have a vanilla Mergenthaler Linotron and we're interested in printing
documents processed by 'eqn' with it. Our problem is that we don't seem to
have a font around that includes brace and bracket pieces. I called up
Mergenthaler and our rep hadn't heard of 'troff' so she didn't know if they
had an appropriate font. So here are some questions:

1. Does anyone out there use 'eqn' on a Linotron 202?

2. If so, how does it handle bracket building?

3. Is there an existing Mergenthaler font that contains the appropriate
bracket pieces? If so, could you tell me what its name is?

Thanks much.

Rick.

Here's a summary of information I've received as a result of my question
about running 'eqn' on a vanilla Linotron 202:

Some folks at the University of Texas developed a modified version of 'eqn'
that generates brackets and braces by scaling up the full-sized characters.
It doesn't support 'floor' or 'ceiling' which 'eqn' builds using parts of
brackets.

This is the only way I've heard of for running 'eqn' on a Linotron. We
have a copy of their software and it works pretty well. We're missing some
of the usual math characters, in particular "not equal" (which we can
fabricate out of / and =) and "not" (which we're simulating with a tilde
for now).

I didn't see the article to which <415@unm-cs> was a followup,
but the followup stated that they couldn't produce several
Troff characters on their Linotron 202 (Mergenthaler)
phototypesetter.

The characters mentioned were the `floor' & `ceiling' chars.
used by eqn, and the `not' char. used by gosh-knows-who.

Well, since all these guys are made from line segments,
horiz. & vert., you should be able to construct them using
the electronic rule generation primitives of the 202.
