[net.text] diablo 630ecs, nroff, neqn

dhf@oddjob.UChicago.UUCP (Daniel Friedan) (06/27/84)

We (the theoretical particle physics group, Enrico Fermi Institute,
University of Chicago) are starting to use a Diablo 630ecs printer (with
the technical typewheel) to print scientific papers produced using nroff
and neqn on a Vax 780 running Berkeley 4.2 Unix.

We would appreciate advice from anyone with experience at this. In
particular, has anyone improved on the distributed version of
tabx-ecs12.c? Does anyone have a library of useful ndefines (e.g. for
extra-large brackets and braces, and a sqrt which uses the builtin
symbols). Is there any way of, or any point to, getting nroff to use
more of the features of the 630ecs like tab and margin setting,
automatic underlining, etc.?

Is there a way to use lpr to print both nroff output and ordinary
files? Is there a way to print both via lpr and also directly (e.g. for
mailing lists and for letters on stationary)?

Does anyone have nroff macros adapted to particular journals (e.g.
Phys. Rev. Lett., Phys. Rev., Phys. Lett., Nucl. Phys., Comm. Math.
Phys.)?

Any other advice would be welcome. Please mail replies to one of
the addresses below. Thanks in advance.
