Well, I really don't want to start another unix-vs-vms point and counterpoint, flame and counterflame, open warfare discussion about these two products (ditroff and TEX), but I do need some advice/help/documentation/recommendations.... We are currently evaluating the use of these two products for use by the following groups: technical writers programming staff clerical staff management We would dearly like one solution for all of these people. It is my contention that a system of tools, ditroff, could do this. However, there are people at this site who are TEX supporters to the nth degree and are not willing to sit down and make a viable comparison... So what I am looking for is help in making a reasonable comparison, which I will subsequently post to the net... I am hoping people can give concrete examples or pointers to such examples of the strengths and weaknesses of both products.. (One comment I got at this site was that TEX produced so much better output, that there is nothing else to consider... Such religious dogma is counterproductive to what I am trying to do... so please help if you can...) Thanks in advance, steve cary sdcsvax!calmasd!steve

Re: From steve@calmasd.UUCP Subject: troff vs. TEX, HELP!!!!!! (long) Date: Fri, 13-Jul-84 10:22:02 PDT Well, I really don't want to start another unix-vs-vms point and counterpoint, flame and counterflame, open warfare discussion about these two products (ditroff and TEX), but I do need some advice/help/documentation/recommendations.... I would actually like to see an open discussion of ditroff vs. TeX. Flames and counterflames of fanatics, when evaluated together, often turn out to be very helpful. Yuval Tamir
