We are considering buying a word processing package to run under UN*X on our Vax for use by our documentation staff. We use some contract technical writers and would prefer a system that is easy to learn and yet versitile for formatting documents. An ability to intermix graphics and tables would be very nice, but as long as we have some means to leave space for the figures we could get along without intermixed graphics. Of particular interest are TeX and Scribe. We have n/troff and judge the learning curve for a contract writer who doesn't already know it to be too costly. Our questions are: 1) What word processing/text formatting packages do you use that you like/dislike? 2) What do you like/dislike about them? 3) How easy are they to learn? 4) How versitile are they for formatting? 5) What limitations do they have?
