When I use a .DE-.DS sequence, the following text gets messed up. The text becomes single spaced and footnotes are printed one word to a line. Here is an example: Here is an example of what I am talking about, notice what I said happens after I decide to use a .DS .DE sequnece. .DS One phrase followed by another and another .DE See what I mean. Notice how the lines are no longer doubled space, instead they are single spaced\*F .FS This even happens when I use .DF instead of .DS. Inserting .ad b doesn't help either. .FE The formated text is: Here is a test of what I am talking about, notice what I said happens after I decide to use a .DS .DE sequnece. One phrase followed by another and another See what I mean. Notice how the lines are no longer doubled space, instead they are single spaced81 __________ 1. This even happens when I use .DF instead of .DS. Inserting .ad b doesn't help either. Any suggestions on what is causing this as well as how to correct the problem? The version of unix used is BSD 4.2. Thank you, Stuart Glosser glosser@ut-ngp.ARPA {sally nbires ihnp4 allegra}!ngp!glosser

I don't know about the footnote problem, but the line spacing for displays is stored in number register DD. If you don't like the default value, you can change it with .nr. -- Col. G. L.
