We have ordered several laserwriters from SUN to attach to our SUN 2/170 fileserver. These are in reality apple laserwriters capable of accepting postscript commands. It looks like we are going to need the software to translate dvi2 output from TeX to postscript format. We seem to have two choices. The first is the dvi2ps that came over the net a while ago. The other choice is something called dvilaser/ps offered by Textset (the preview people). I have heard rumors about the speed (or lack thereof) of the dvi2ps software. There also have been mutterings about a small page limit before the whole thing grinds to a halt. The only things I have heard about the Textset product have been raves from their sales staff. I think I would like to hear a few independant opinions before I spend the money on the Textset dvilaser/ps. Is there anyone out there who has used the Textset driver with a laserwriter? Are there any page limits with this as with the public domain driver? How do you judge the speed? (Accounting for the overall speed of the laserwriter, itself, of course :-) Could anyone out there who picked up a copy of the dvi2ps when it was broadcast to the net please send it to me? News expired here before I realized that I needed it. Thanks. Lastly, does anyone know of any similar product[s] that could do the same job better/faster/cheaper? Any and all comments on this subject are most welcome. Thanks, Anne C. Blanchard CSnet: blanchar@unc USENET: decvax!mcnc!unc!blanchar
