Does anyone have a reference for the calories consumed in stairclimbing? I'm looking for a value that considers: -bodyweight -height of steps -climbing rate -downhill vs uphill _______ Al Tino ...!hou2f!tino

Also, if you don't grab the handrail, the stomache muscles receive some benefit. So remember to suck it in! Addison ihnp4!ihlpa!ibyf My brother? I always thought of him as mom and dad's science project.

I was unable to send direct email reply, so I'm posting to the net: I seem to recall Maggie Lettvin (of Maggie's Beautiful Machine--WGBH) listing calorie counts for various everyday activities. I think climbing stairs was given as 12 calories per minute, without any distinction made between going up or down. I do, however, happen to recall that rocking in a rocking chair burns 100 calories per hour. I have the list somewhere at home, if I can locate it I'll get back to you. Jamie (jgold@bbncc6.arpa)
