[net.text] TEX: using LN03, QMS laser-printers under VAX/VMS

sdd@aplvax.UUCP (02/28/86)

The TEX formatting package has just been installed on our VAX/VMS system.
We are in the process of trying to get it to work on either or both of our
laser printers - a DEC LN03 and a QMS Lasergrafix 1200.
I am a total novice in the TEX
arena, but am reasonably experienced with troff. In any case, several questions
have arisen which have (hopefully) trivial answers (at least for TEX wizards).

1. What are some good reference/tutorial texts, besides
   "The TEXbook" by Knuth?

2. Are there groups outside of the Usenet community which specialize in
   Tex-related issues?

3. Has anyone out there gotten TEX to run on the DEC or QMS laser printers
under VMS? Is additional software required? I would assume so for the
   QMS.

4. Processing a trivial 2-page TEX file with multiple paragraphs and
sending it to the LNO3 results in correct output, except that BOTH pages
are printed on the SAME piece of paper! Is there some special set up
sequence that must be sent to the laser printer, either explicitly
through inclusion in the source file, or by inclusion in a VMS printer
form designed for the LN03 output queue?

Any help, pointers, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Please respond by e-mail. I will post a followup if sufficient
   interest exists.
