[net.text] New journal

paul@proper.UUCP (paul) (04/30/86)

Proper Publishing is proud to announce a new journal for computer scientists
and computing professionals. Text in Computers is a scholarly journal
published four times a year covering all aspects of the use of text in
computers: text input, processing character and word strings, and output.
Text in Computers will be of interest to all researchers, programmers, and
analysts who work with text.

The regular features will include research papers, technology updates, book
reviews, hardware and software descriptions, algorithm notes, a database of
text professionals and researchers, and an information exchange. Text in
Computers will fill a gap that exists in the magazines for computer scientists
and will aid programmers who work with word processing and data manipulation
programs.

I am sure that many of you have research papers that would be appropriate
for Text in Computers. We will be covering some of the topics that are
covered in net.text, and extended articles are especially welcome. Please
call or write if you would like to submit papers for the first issue.

Subscriptions for Text in Computers are $25 for one year (4 issues). Foreign
subscriptions (outside U.S., Canada, and Mexico) are $50. The first issue
will be published in Summer 1986. If you would like to subscribe or have any
questions, please contact me at Proper Publishing:

Will this journal really be so weighty that each copy will cost $6.25 more
to mail overseas than to North American addresses?!

Maybe, but probably not. However, I've been advised by others publishing
academic journals that overseas subscriptions are a royal pain (even in non-
Commonwealth countries :-) ) due to getting checks cashed, issues that never
show up and need to be re-sent, and so on. Most folks said "double the price
and expect that few will subscribe." Anyhow, you're in Canada, so don't worry.
If this is a financial hardship to someone out there, let me know.
