[net.text] TeX conversion to 2.0

ramin@rtgvax.UUCP (06/21/86)

In my VMS TeX 2.0 release from Stanford a number of extra fonts were
included. These were in the GF form, with a GFtoPXL converter included.
The reason we still have to use the PXL format is because the DVI2LN3
(DVI to DEC LN03 laserprinter) program doesn't understand the GF format
yet (wait till things start coming out in PK form...yow (:-).

Anyway, after converting some 400-odd files to PXL, I had to run another
program (FFC) on all of it to convert it from fixed-record to stream-LF
form... Now the question is, no FMT format files were included in
the distribution for these fonts. These are all CM fonts (not AM!)
and for some of them (some of the CMR's) the FMT files were already there...
How do I go about getting the FMT files??????
I've never had this problem and am certain either some files are missing
or a program to make the FMT files is floating around for this (?).

There is a PLtoFM and FMtoPL program... but nothing "FMT" related...
Any help would be appreciated... I would prefer to hear from some people
before I go complaining to Maria Code and Stanford...
(on the other hand, if anyone knows about any LN03 or HP drivers supporting
the GF format, I'd appreciate hearing from them...)

Thanks much

ramin
