(This is somewhat related to the argument currently going on in net.text about vi/nroff vs. WYSIWYG word processors). I'm looking for a way to modify an editor running on UNIX (4.3BSD, Ultrix 1.2, and/or 2.9BSD) to use the same keystrokes as WordStar so our secretaries and tech writers, who are comfortable with WordStar, can create and edit files on UNIX with less hassle -- it's hard enough to learn shell commands, nroff, etc., so if I can supply an editor environment that they already know so much the better. What I'm considering is using an emacs editor (either GNU or microEMACS) and changing the key bindings. Has anyone done this already? This is my first attempt doing anything like this with emacs -- can anyone give me some hints? My preference is to use microEMACS, as it is smaller (should fit on our pdp11 (2.9BSD), quicker (I assume), and I expect easier to modify, if I should need to make any changes to the source, but if someone already has done this for GNU emacs, we'd probably use that. I'm mostly interested in emulating the keystrokes; other things, like text fill, attributes, are not needed, though word wrap would certainly be appreciated.
