[net.text] Need LaTeX help

anita@utastro.UUCP (Anita Cochran) (10/16/86)

Since people have been so helpful and patient so far, I have decided to
press my luck and ask some more questions. Please have pity on a novice.

I am using LaTeX with documentstyle article (11pt if that is relevant).
I am producing text for camera ready copy and the document requirements
are quite persnickety. Most stuff has worked out fine and was actually
quite easy. I have 2 remaining problems.

1) ENUMERATE
I am using an enumerate environment for something. The numbering must be
flush with the lefthand margin so I did a \setlength{itemindent}{-0.4cm}
(the document type seems to define the itemindent as 2.5em but when I said
either 0pt or -2.5em for my length I got either no change or a leftdented
number). This setlength solved my numbering problem but now I have the
second and subsequent lines starting where they used to and the first
line, after the number, starting 0.4cm left of them. How do I move the
second and subsequent lines?

2) SECTION HEADINGS
The section headings are printed in "Large" type and the sub-sections
in "large" type. The document specifications say they should be
in normal type. If, I type:
    {\normalsize \section{BLAH}}
the section heading comes out in Large (the old def over-rides).
If I type:
    \section{\normalsize BLAH}
The section heading is the proper size but the section number is still large.
I tried using "renewcommand" and putting in the basic stuff it had in
art11.doc but it got really upset with the \@startsection that exists
in that file. I have no idea what the command means. So, is
there a way to get the number and the section name to be the proper size?

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I need this paper
completed by October 22 so if you could send answers directly
to me I would be forever grateful.

Thanks in advance.
